Buy with a means to extend your warranty or don’t bother

I’ve been a fairly avid gamer most of my life, and made the transition to using the Xbox at age 13. Until turning 23, I have only used stock controllers and relatively cheaper variants due to being young. At this point in my life, I can comfortably afford to spend more money on more premium products for that enhanced quality. Three and a half months ago, I made this decision for my console gaming experience when I bought this controller. My qualms are not so much with the controller’s amenities but rather the longetivity. The ergonomics of the controller itself are great. It has a textured grip to improve handling of the controller, interchangeable joysticks and D-pads, paddles to increase variability to your gaming, adjustments to trigger pull for the FPS junkies out there, and a plethora of options for customizing what buttons do in the Accessories App. You can even use one button like a SHIFT key on your keyboard, allowing for even more options. I thoroughly enjoy using this controller as I learned to use the paddles. The paddles by default replace the “A,”, “B,”, “X,” and “Y” buttons. This addition allows you to play games without having to move your thumbs with the exception of the D-pad, Start/Select buttons, and Xbox button. For someone really into FPS, this increases your efficiency by a notable amount once it is learned. I had a fantastic time using this controller when I gamed in my free time, until the drift came.My controller’s left joystick has drift on its Y-Axis. What a controller should do once you release the joystick is return to the center. This keeps your character from moving when you do not intend for them to do so. What my controller does is keep the joystick tilted ever so slightly up or down, keeping my character moving in that direction when gaming and making it a hell of a challenge to select anything with an in-game cursor. I will use Apex Legends as an example. I jump onto a narrow ledge to make use of its elevation and I have a sniper with a scope. While aimed in, I make a slight movement up to see just a bit better. Next thing I know, I am falling off of that ledge to likely 50m below, where there were some enemies sneaking by and now I am dead. That slight movement of my character without my intent will cause issues like that to happen on a constant. The problem is even worse when I need to ping to my team for ammo, a certain attachment, or even to drop an item in my inventory. When accessing your inventory in Apex, you use a circular in-game cursor and move it with your joystick to individual items. Imagine how hard that becomes when my cursor keeps going up/down unless I take extra time to steady the stick to the center. That seemingly small problem impairs gameplay to the point I almost don’t even use the controller and use a stock controller instead.I had actually never had joystick drift until getting an Elite Controller. Due to various reasons, I have been very busy these past few months, making me forgetful or at times unable to contact Microsoft, I got to contacting them this week for help as I did not want to void any warranty trying to fix a nearly $200 controller on my own. However, in a timely manner, I get a response telling me I can’t be helped as I am past my warranty. I bought this controller on the 9th of February and got this response today, on the 27th of May. Not even 4 months past the purchase of this item, Microsoft will refuse to provide any help. Now I am hoping I can get some results from AMEX as I bought this controller with that card for an extended coverage of the item. If you buy this, be extremely careful with it, try to clean it, and do what you can to prevent development of a problem down the line as Microsoft will only stand by a nearly $200 controller for 90 days.

    Looses connection often

I picked this up because I was sick of always recharging AA batteries for my older controllers, and thought having a rechargeable USB-C would be nice. And, sure, it would be, if it could keep a connection.I even have the specific PC dongle for the thing, and it still looses signal, even with the dongle being less than a meter away from the controller.Bluetooth is laggy and less than stellar in it’s response times. The only way the thing is viable is to use a wired connection, and if I wanted that, I would have just purchased a wired controller.Wired performance is as it should be though, so I will give it that. It’s not ENTIRELY useless, just not nearly as good as the previous generation on connectivity.

    Best

I absolutely love this controller all the way around except one thing I don’t like the built in battery thing wish I was still able to put my battery packs in it but other than that love it! The joystick tension adjuster was a hit for me!!! I went from building my own through extreme rate to this and I should have just bought this a long time ago

Too many other controllers died. This one is holding up.

Almost every XBOX controller I tried had a life span of about 3 months before controller drift kicked in and I went out to the internet to try to fix it.This thing is beefy and seems like its built to last.

It’s a lot you can do with this…

I honestly didn’t know that you can basically turn this controller into a keyboard. At first I was just remapping in game.. But when I went into my Xbox settings and found mapping.. Mind blown! Feels good in hand! Cool how you can swap sticks and change Xbox button color, etc. The stick tuning and trigger tuning most def gives you the upper hand on a lot of games too! Pretty pleased!

Right bumper gave out after about 6 months of use

I love the ability to switch the triggers so they just click like the buttons instead of having to press them all the way down. It really elevates my gaming performance. But after 6 months of use I’ve noticed the right bumper is not as responsive as it used to be. It only registers a third of the time and the only sure fire way I can get it to register is to hold it for 2 seconds. Having to hold a bumper to register a click quite literally murders the gaming performance and makes it nearly unbearable to play any games. I hope this is just a lousy controller I got and that not all the controllers are like this.

    I love it

I liked it a lot the controller it self is great I use it now a lot when I got it I thought I would get the back peddles with it that’s on me I just bought them they gonna come tomorrow I play a lot of black ops 3 and fornite it’s great for both over all it’s handy it helps me alot with aiming because I also have krontroll freaks I recommend them but I won’t need them for long because of the extra set that I got. Overall I recommend you get this for if you want to get a more fun gameplay but I wouldn’t say but this now if your not a person that plays video games that often then don’t buy it.

    construction a bit off

I loved the weight and general feel of the elite. However, I think I received a bad one that was just put together poorly. The right hand grip was not flush so the edge would dig into my hand after a while. The RB and a buttons would also randomly step responding. This hosed my game more than a couple times. It would sometimes take 4 to 5 presses for the button press to register.Overall, I really liked the controller and truly believe I just happened to get a bad one. I will probably re-order a new one.

    Best Xbox controller to date.

I was skeptical with a built in battery. If you’re worried, don’t be.I stream my 12-16 hour game sessions and so far this controller has stood up. The battery hasn’t died mid pvp sweat match yet!It does come with a slow usb c charger that I reccomend always using. Do not opt for a high speed port. The slower charger ensures no over charge and a long battery life for your controller. You may be tempted to use a quick charger, and it will in fact work and quick charge but then limit the battery charge duration and the life of the battery resulting in a dead forever contoelelr, don’t do it! Charge it overnight with its provided charger and you’ll be golden. The core is where it’s at with the missing accessories only being about $9 on Amazon, that’s a huge win!Controller comes with 3 different profiles you can setup, ability to tighten sticks to barely push them helping if you ever get stick drift tighting will instantly fix said issue!Removable magnetic twist thumb sticks are a huge win here. Curved rear triggers for better shooter grip with 3 adjustable trigger locks that are instantly read when locked so no settings changed mandatory, but would fine tune in Xbox accessories app for better tuning. You can customize in profile for trigger settings for instant head taps. Customizable down to changing the Xbox light color on the controller per profile to help know which profile you’re using by color or by 3 light system.Does not have a share or capture button. You’ll need to remap one of your buttons as a shift button to hold while you press another button to capture, share, record start, record stop, and record what previously happened. I do this with a paddle then a, b, x, y as shift keys. This controller is heavier than your normal controller, textured triggers and bumpers, the curve on the back triggers it steep so not good if you play games where you have to hold bumper and click trigger as the curve will start to hurt your finger quickly because it is very steep. All in all this is an excellent controller and if you’re like me who gets stick drift on new controllers quickly, worry not with this controller. It is excellent and no stick drift issues. Do pre tighten the sticks slightly, quarter turn when you first get it. It will break on and be brilliant for you.

    Seems fragile

Got this and it is very nice, but within the first couple of months the right thumb stick wouldn’t press anymore. Microsoft took care of me under the warranty and I haven’t had an issue with the replacement.

    This is so much better!

This controller is alot better, my only problem is the $50.00 accessories package that you should buy, not cool xbox, still, stabil, and great to work with, just….. how about hall effect sensors? That would make this perfect!

Did I hit the Microsoft lottery?

I’m on my third Elite 2 controller. About a year ago I bought one, and right out of the box, the face buttons weren’t always responsive. I turned it in for warranty work to MS and the new controller I got back from them (different serial number) also had exactly the same problem. At that point, I swore never to get another one. Fast forward a year, and after trying other controllers and never finding one with decent back button layout, I decided to roll the dice again on this controller after hearing they may have improved QC, this time with the longest warranty I could get (3 years)… for Science.I’m flabbergasted to report that this one works perfectly right out of the box. Is it a fluke, or did they actually find the problem and correct it in their production process? I don’t know, but if so, this is monumentally good news, as there are very few “pro” controllers that have even passable ergonomics (I just came from a Thrustmaster eSwap X). If this thing holds up for 6 months, I’ll be ecstatic and provide a follow up review (and I’ll probably buy another one to have as a backup). The GoodErgonomics – Microsoft invested far more money in studying controller ergonomics than any other company. This is evident when you handle their default controller as well as this one; the size is right for most hands, all the controls are laid out where you can actually reach them. I haven’t found any other aftermarket controller get this right like MS. This clamshell design is the best out there. It’s no wonder that companies like Scuff start with a default controller; other than licensing concerns, it’s because designing something better would be extremely difficult. When you couple this with the textured rubberized grips, nothing comes remotely close in terms of comfort.Back paddles – This is the star of the show, and the reason you get a “pro” controller. Again, after lots of research into reviews and personally buying and handling a lot of other controllers, I’ve never found, or am aware of, any back paddle/button layout that is better than this one. Your fingers just naturally fall where the paddles are. There’s no reaching or straining to get to them. Why is this so difficult for other companies to get right?? This is the thing that brought me back to an Elite 2. I will at some point get a Scuf Instinct Pro to compare, but I have doubts it will be better any than this. The problem I see right away with the Instinct Pro is it’s not designed for you to be able to press more than one button per side. This could be an issue for some and potentially for me.Sticks – These are also top tier. They are very smooth with virtually no slop. The only other ones I felt that were as good or better was the Thrustmaster eSwap, which uses highly touted NXG sticks. The fact that the tension is adjustable also takes this to the next level. Whether they hold up over time will be telling but I never had that issue on the last Elite 2s I’ve had.Triggers – Again, top tier, smoothly action, nicely textured finish and with 3 stops (you’re lucky to get one stop with most other controllers). I really like the throw of the trigger at the shortest throw. I suspect the Scuf Instinct Pro will be better so I can’t wait to try it. I can’t think of another competitor that will come close in this regard.Overall refinement – Microsoft has the money to throw at proper R&D, design, and production line assembly and it shows. When you consider the overall design, the feel, how the controller is sculpted and fits the hand, the finishing and quality of the plastics and rubber, nothing else really comes close. I suppose Sony does, but that’s unfortunately not an option. The BadReliability – Everybody knows about the laughable return rates on these controllers. I had zero expectations going in this time around, and was ready to duke it out with the longest warranty I could get. You should never get something like this without at least one backup controller. Time will tell if mine holds up. If I can get 6 months out of this without having to turn it in for warranty work, I would call that a victory. If it holds out that long, I will definitely buy another one to have as a backup.Buttons – This has been the Achilles heel of the controller. The soft rubber domed, mushy feeling buttons are no different from a bog standard controller. I expect more from a premium controller, and I’m willing to pay a lot more to get it. Take Razer Wolverine Chroma V2 and their mechanical switches for example. They’re able to offer that at a lower price point than this one. Come on Microsoft, stop cheaping out on buttons! For that matter, give us mechanical switches on the paddles also.Bumpers – They have a nice texture to them and are sculpted well, but like the buttons, I wish MS would get away from the mushy feeling rubber dome feel. One thing I will give them props for is they made these nice and quiet, like the rest of the controls.I’m still on the search for the holy grail of controllers, and will be getting a Scuf Instinct Pro next. I’ve waited over a year to have a working Elite 2, and I finally have it! As it stands right now, IMHO it is the best controller currently available on the market (when it works).

    “Needed” new controller

I have been using the Cyberpunk 2077 special edition Xbox controller since a couple of months before Cyberpunk came out, and was beginning to have a double button push when I played Star Wars Jedi Survivor. It was irritating to die over and over, because I got a double jump instead of a single jump. So, on the advice of a friend, I ordered the Xbox Series 2 controller. I went all in and got the Elite version with the back paddles and charging case. I plugged it into my USB hub overnight and used it the next day. It kept disconnecting. Mistake 1 – my hub evidently doesn’t put out enough power to charge it, so I had to plug directly into my PC. Skip my pain and just use a PC USB port. All is good, right? Mistake 2 – This one is for everyone that hasn’t used one of these controllers. Download the Microsoft Accessories App from the app store. It allows you to customize the buttons, and I mean all the buttons. You can change everyone of them, if you want to. So, I put the LB and RB on the front paddles and removed the back paddles, for now. Everything is working great, after another overnight charge. It is actually useful to read the manual on this one. GASP! Yes, I did! That is probably 5 manuals in 40 years! It helped me make sure I got everything set up exactly the way I wanted it. You can have 3 different active profiles in the software, and many more that can be moved in if you need them. You will need to plug in to set them up. I recommend using a different color light for each one, so you know which profile is loaded. You can also change the light intensity and feedback to save battery life, if you need to hit that 40 hours between charges. I increased the tension on the sticks using the included tool (small flathead screwdriver), because I like them to have a bit of weight to them.I really like this controller. It is heavier than my old one and can recharge while it is plugged in, unlike the old one, which has removable battery packs, but does not charge. The only issue I have is the grips are a bit slippery, which will probably improve after I play with sweaty, sticky hands a few times. This controller should last me quite a few years, the way I use it. I use a mouse/keyboard most of the time, except for those console ports that just don’t transfer that well. The Elite is a bit pricey, but if you don’t want the back paddles or charging case, you can always go with the Core controller. It is the same controller without the extras, but all the functionality.

    High quality controller

I got this for playing games on Steam (pc). I am an avid gamer and have used many different controllers from GameCube to Xbox. My prior controller that I was using was an Xbox Scuff controller. It had worn down after 100+ hours of use: the RB and several paddles had broken. I got this new controller as a replacement. It has several key qualities that I like:1.) The shaft of the sticks are metal. My prior controller used plastic for the shafts and they would slowly shred from use and leave dust behind. This created an issue where the dust would get into the controller and cause drift. (All controllers have stick drift. It’s where your controller will move your character onscreen without you doing anything. Games incorporate dead zones where the stick inputs are not read. Overtime, controllers get worse and worse drift that go above the dead zone thresholds causing drift.) I have not had any issues with drift on the new controller.2.) Metal Paddles. These are levers under the controller that allow you to hit your A, B, X, etc… buttons so that you don’t need to move your fingers off of the sticks. Paddles are not included, but you can buy them separately. I highly recommend getting paddles. They make a big difference. My prior controller used plastic paddles that all eventually broke. These paddles are metal and won’t break. They are easy to put on and off. They are placed better for your fingers too.3.) Adjustable hair triggers. Your RT and LT buttons can be adjusted so that you don’t go all the way down. This is helpful if you only need them to act as “buttons” rather than “triggers” and don’t need the full press down. I personally don’t restrict my triggers, but if you like to then that function exists here. On the back of the controller you can slide a button into 3 different positions to have them be unrestricted, partially restricted, and almost fully restricted.4.) Braided type C cord. The controller is wireless, but you can use the cord it comes with to have a wired connection to your computer through any USB port. The braided cord feels high quality and is much better that the plastic incased cords. My prior controller used a micro USB connection on the controller which was a crappy connection that would disconnect all the time. The Type C connection is stable and never disconnects while I’m playing.5.) Satellite D-pad. It looks a little silly but I like the feel of this d-pad better that the “plus” d-pad. Easy to rotate around all of the directions. Here are some of the cons so far:1.) I got the blue one. The letters inside the A, B, X, Y buttons are blue. So it’s hard to read what button is which. I can see this being annoying for new players. This only bothers me when I go from using a Nintendo Pro controller to this one because they reverse the X and Y (also A and B). I always get them mixed up and I’ll look down at this controller looking for the X button, but it’s hard to see.2.) Changing the buttons the paddles are linked to is more difficult on this controller than the Scuff controller. The Scuff controller had a much better solution. This one needs a separate app to do it.3.) The face plate is more difficult to remove. Another minor gripe. Scuff does this better too where you can remove the face plate easily as it is held on with magnets. You probably will never need to do this, but it does help if you need to replace buttons or clean the inside.Overall, I would recommend this controller to a gamer who is looking for a step up from the basic Xbox controller. Definitely geared for a more competitive player. If you are a casual player, then you would be better off with a cheaper controller. Compared to the Scuff controller, I think this one is better overall. From a price standpoint, it is also better.

    Best controller out there

This is a “must-have” controller for any serious gamer.First of all it works seamlessly with Xbox and PC. Just plug it in and play. You can remap any bottoms to be anything you want. The four back-paddles are very intuitively located and are easy to get used to and use.It also has multiple interchangeable parts from thumb sticks to d-pads which are easy to swap in and out, yet never fall off while gaming. You can also adjust the pressure on the thumb sticks to make your movements more precise.Lastly, the L-trigger lock makes it so that you can customize your gaming style between fast shooting to driving games for a better feel.Overall this controller feels very comfortable in your hand and will last you many years. It is quite expensive but it pays for itself and top of the line features and durability

From The Perspective of A Competitive Gamer

(Let me preface this review by clarifying that I have thousands of hours in the esport Rocket League and play in highly competitive environments consistently. As a result, average use of a controller such as this will typically range from 15-40 hours a week. If this situations I discuss are dissimilar to your own, this review will most likely be entirely unhelpful, and potentially every issue I may mention would never even be noticeable otherwise.)The reason I purchased an Xbox Elite Controller was to resolve some of the gripes that I have with the normal Core Xbox One controller. Namely, the left bumper becoming insensitive after a random amount of time. I have explored fixing the controllers myself by replacing the parts, but a small glance at the interior of the controller reveals that these components almost seem specifically designed to break, and any new component would soon meet the same fate due to this controller architecture. As a result, I decided to take a chance of a very pricey controller.——————————————————Let’s begin with the strong points of this controller:-Generally solid build quality-Very smooth analog stickNow that I’ve got that out of the way, let me list every issue that plagued me during the few weeks I dared to use this controller.1. Triggers and Trigger LocksMaybe I’m unaware of some popular applications which require a player to be setting different trigger-locks mid game, but the placement of these trigger locks has to be one of the most nonsensical design choices of all time. It unfortunately just so happens that any reasonable human being might rest an unused finger in that exact location. What significance could this possibly have? How about, accidentally setting a trigger lock mid trigger input so that the button jams and cannot be used again until you manually put the trigger lock back. I literally entered into the Google search bar, “How to stop Xbox Elite trigger locks from working.” This phenomenon occured a significantly statistic amount of times during the small amount of time that I owned this controller. Now, when it comes to triggers, Xbox controller have had a fair amount of hiccups. In the past, the Core controllers would have consistent issues with the button actuation causing some kind of rubbing which exposed an adhesive in the controller. This adhesive just so happened to come into contact with the trigger being depressed, so it would stick for a moment when you let go of the trigger. This hasn’t been an issue on Core controllers for a while now, but it seems like the Elite counterpart didn’t quite get the memo because the sticking still occurs, albeit to a lesser degree.2. Sensitivity and ResistancePersonally, I actually like my Xbox face buttons to be relatively loose as I use a technique which allows me to press all of these buttons with just my thumb. As a result, I slide a lot from button to button and often utilize the edges of my finger. These face buttons slowed me down tremendously and was beginning to condition me into applying more force than necessary so that I didn’t get ‘stuck’ on a button for slightly too long. On top of this strangely strong button resistance, I also realized that it’s possible to depress the face buttons in such a way that the controller does not register them as inputs. If done so in a delicate way straight on, or at particular angles you will just lose an input. Can’t imagine that every being a problem in a competitive environment! Realistically however, this only affected me a handful of times, but it occurring at all is already a massive oversight. This is an issue that I’ve never encountered on the base model Core controllers.Technically, the controller did deliver on what I initially purchased it for, solid bumper use, but it introduced so many issues that I never even considered possible that I was longing for the base plasticy feel of a cheap Xbox controller again. For a controller which costs approximately 3x more than the base models and delivers objectively worse overall performance for my applications, I cannot possibly recommend this controller.

Still a good controller in 2024, but better options exist on PC now.

I have a lot of controllers… and I’m on a mission of reviewing every controller I own. Today we’ll be reviewing the Xbox Elite Series 2! Be warned, this will probably be a long one…The main reason I bought this controller, way back in 2019, is because I was raiding in FFXIV and I wanted the best possible PC controller to do it with. The adjustable tension on the sticks and the rear paddles were both attractive points to me and having primarily played with a standard Xbox One wireless controller, this was the most natural direction to go in my controller journey.I unfortunately had a lemon for my first one though – the triggers failed to register when engaging the trigger stops. I had to go to a Microsoft store to exchange it for a working one. This has unfortunately become a bit of a reputation for this controller, you may have to go through a lottery to get one that works. I’m happy to report though that the replacement I got back then still works, though I have had to manually replace two things.Features:The standout features on the Elite Series 2 that got me interested were….- Adjustable Joystick Tension- Rear Paddles- Trigger Stops- 4 customizable profilesTwo of the four ended up being very useful to me. The joystick tension allowed me to have a looser movement joystick with a stiffer camera joystick, which worked out ideally for me. The trigger stops reduced the fatigue of my index fingers after a raiding session since I didn’t have to depress the trigger as far while using skills. Unfortunately the rear paddles ended up being a disappointment as you can really only map existing buttons to the triggers without using third party software (ReWASD), which I eventually ended up purchasing in order to set up macros. The profiles basically got ruined for me because of he same reason – they weren’t really that useful to me without the ability to macro.Aside from that, the controller really has no standout features anymore. Times were different back then though and a lot of things seen in newer controllers like HE/TMR joysticks, microswitch face buttons, LCD screens, etc were not a thing.QC / Durability Concerns:My Elite 2 still functions today, but two things have broken down over time.1) I had to solder a new right shoulder button switch in. Eventually it got to the point where you had to mash it for it to actuate, which wasn’t practical… so I took the controller apart and got a kit to solder a new button in. In the process, I kind of ruined the right stick so the return tension is not correct anymore, but also….2) I had to replace a bulging battery. When the controller was taken apart, the battery was able to expand due to not being compressed, and when I went to reassemble the controller it would physically not go back together because of the battery bulge. Unfortunately, ebay was the only place I could find the replacement, but luckily it is not a soldered battery so replacement was easy. After my first one started having issues I bought a second one from another store… that one has a slightly lopsided dpad mount that I didn’t notice at first or else I would have returned it… I could probably fix it if I take it apart but I don’t think it’s worth the effort. Again… controller lottery lol.Functionality:Aside from the concerns… if you get a good one, it will serve you well. I’ve never had a drift issue in nearly 5 years with the controller, and it went through a good 2 years of frequent FFXIV raiding which requires a lot of movement of both joysticks, as well as other games I picked up during the time such as Genshin Impact. All of the buttons aside from the right trigger never gave me an issue, and the joystick tension adjustment was great although limited.A staple of my controller reviews… the Tetris dpad test. I play games on Tetris at as fast of a pace as I can (I’m roughly a 1 minute sprinter in modern Tetris games) and see how many false hard drops I get. Xbox one style dpads have been some of my favorites for this test because they’re very tactile and it’s extremely hard to get a false hard drop in Tetris, so needless to say, this controller passes that test easily. I do find that the asymmetrical controller layout is less comfortable for me to play Tetris on though, so my go to controller for Tetris at the moment is an 8BitDo Pro 2.In Conclusion:Assuming you get a working one… the Xbox Elite Series 2 is still a good controller. If you are playing on an Xbox, it might still arguably be one of the best options for you… but at the end of the day, especially if you are on PC, it is a bit outdated now. Controller innovation has brought things like hall effect and TMR joysticks, which offer a reduced risk of drift. Companies like Flydigi are offering tension adjustments along with these modern joysticks, and completely custom macro ability with the rear buttons with their own software at a lower price with their Vader 4 Pro. Companies like 8BitDo are offering the Ultimate at a fraction of the price while only missing a little bit of the functionality. I’d argue today that there’s no reason to buy this controller anymore unless you specifically are an Xbox gamer as so many good featured alternatives exist for PC now.I’ve realized it myself lately, but the days of third party options being cheap and inferior have ended.

    The best for bigger hands

I’ve tried a bunch of xbox controllers, and have found that the Elite is really the best. Great feel, solid, the multi-stop trigger adjustment is excellent for customizing for shooters or racing. Tracking is excellent, though you will want to tweak it in the xbox accessories app to get the curves you want. One thing; It is heavier than almost any other controller. If you want lightweight this is not for you, but if you’re like me and enjoy a heavier, solid, controller get this.OH! And EXCELLENT back paddles!

An issue with the controller compounded by trying to use warranty. ***UPDATE **** It gets so bad.

****UPDATE**** 10/10/24On 09/15/2024 I received my second replacement controller that did not function correctly. This time the headphone jack did not work along with the original issue of stick drift. I go through the arduous process of trying to talk with somebody and this person sounds like they are going to assist. They tell me they will send out a “new” controller as a replacement right away because of all of the issues I have had. All I have to do is give them my credit card number so that it can be charged in the chance that I do not return the unworking controller. I agreed to the $196.02 charge if I didn’t return the controller. On 09/20/24, I received the new, unboxed controller and it worked. Within an hour, I sent the unworking controller back to Xbox with the provided shipping label. I received an email from Xbox later that day stating that it looks like I received the controller and requesting that I send the tracking number. i do so immediately. On 09/26/2024, I received an email that they had not received the controller and that if they did not receive the controller within a few days, I would be charged for the replacement. I attempted to call but I got disconnected (this happens 50% of the time, in my experience). I then sent another email with the tracking number again. I could see that the controller was delivered to El Paso on that very same day. Over the next week, I see a charge and a credit authorized on my credit card for 196.01. I assumed that they charged and realized they received the controller and then credited my account. Neither had posted. I checked my credit card yesterday and the charge had posted, and the credit disappeared.I have been attempting to get in contact with them for the past 40 minutes since customer service opened. I have been unable to request a phone call back. They appear to have a system issue. They have many issues.Sidenote. I called Chase last night to contest the charge. They were great. They, themselves, removed the charge. They just ate the charge. I am still working on this through Xbox because Chase shouldn’t compensate me for Microsoft’s thievery. My goal is to get refunded though Xbox for the product I returned and to have Chase recover their nice gesture.****UPDATE**** 08/19/2024I have not received any communication from Jefry (Microsoft) regarding my missing controller that I sent in under warranty. Jefry did assure me 3-4 times that he would contact me every 3 days with an update on the status of the lost controller. I called Microsoft today and went through the process of requesting customer service to call me. The call was estimated to be in approximately 22 minutes. 5 minutes later (I was in the shower) the phone rang and it was Microsoft. I was pleased until I got to wait on hold for 35 minutes before speaking to a person. Finally, an advocate (customer service agent) got on the line. I explained the entire situation again and she asked for the support request number. She asked that I wait a few minutes while she looked into the case. She got back on the line and stated that since the case was previously escalated that she was unable to access any information, but I should be assured that she will forward this information to Jefry (the “advocate” that was previously assisting me and the “advocate” that failed to keep me updated as promised multiple times) and Jefry will contact me either today or tomorrow. I asked if I could get a copy of what she is sending to Jefry so I have something if I were to need to call back. She stated that she was not permitted to send me a copy, but I should be assured that Jefry will contact me by tomorrow with an update. I kindly stated that I was sure that she did send this information to Jefry but she should not assure me that Jefry will follow through as he has already failed to do so previously. The conversation ended and I currently have 3 1/2 hours into trying to get a working controller for my son so he could have his birthday present back.————————————————————————————————————————-I purchased the controller on June 15, 2024, and received June 22, 2024. During the first week my kid was complaining that the controller had “stick drift” (basically the controller stick would not recenter itself so there would be movement without touching the controller). I did not really think that was likely of the new controller and thought he may be just making excuses for not winning a game. I hear him complain about it off and on for the next month until he forced me to look at how bad it was on August 1, 2024. I observed the same thing that he was complaining about. I went online to look into this issue and saw that it may be fixed by recalibrating the controller. I did that and it did not fix the issue. There were many videos online on how to take a part the controller and replace a few parts, but I did not want to take that route because that would certainly void the warranty. The 30 day return window closed 9 days earlier on July 22, 2024 so I attempted to go through the regular warranty process (the warranty on Xbox controllers are usually 90 days but on Elite Series 2 the warranty was extended from 90 days to a year because of how many issues that were being reported about this controller). Microsoft contracts the warranty portion of the process to Asurion. Asurion is a company that you can purchase extended warranties for a variety of items. I have dealt with Asurion in the past and they have been easy to work with. I speak with the Asurion agent for over an hour to get this warranty process started and I receive a shipping label emailed to me. I pack up the item and have it at UPS within a half an hour.I can track that Microsoft received the controller on August 6, 2024. On August 7, 2024, I receive an email that states:”Your device has shipped, Great news. Your repaired or replaced device has left our service center and is on its way to the shipping address that you provided or the Microsoft-authorized location that you selected. You can track the status of your delivery. Tracking may take 24 to 48 hours to populate.”The tracking number never updates with any information except for:”UPS doesn’t have possession of the package yet. Estimated delivery date will be available as soon as we get the package.”It is now August 14, 2024, and I decide that I should call Microsoft to check on the status of this controller. I went through the process so that I may receive a call to speak to somebody. After a few minutes, I did receive a call that was immediately disconnected from their end. I go through the process again to request another call and did receive one a few minutes later. I verified a bit of information so he could look further into the issue. This is where I felt like it went off the tracks. The agent told me that he could see the item was shipped and should have been delivered. I stated that it had not been delivered and we compared tracking numbers. Then he stated that it was most likely an issue with UPS not updating their system. This went on for about ten minutes where he would ask for a few minutes to check on something and come back about miscommunication with UPS. Finally, the agent (who spoke extremely fast, and I had to restate for clarification) told me that he was going put in a “support request” and he would follow up with me every few days until he could determine the status of the controller (he would have somebody else contact UPS and the repair facility). I asked him what timeframe that a warranty claim usually took and he stated 15 days on the high end. I asked if I should expect my controller 15 days from when Microsoft received it on August 6, 2024 and he said it would be 15 days from today, August 14, 2024. I asked what would happen if I didn’t receive the controller in 15 days and he stated that I should call back and inquire about it again but there wasn’t a definite timeframe that could be stated because of unforeseen issues like communication with UPS. I then asked if the controller was repaired or replaced, and he didn’t have that information.I told him that I had a different solution. I started by stating that I thought it wasn’t appropriate to blame this on UPS. I told him that I was conducting my business with Microsoft and that if Microsoft has an issue with a company that they do business with then that should not be used as an excuse with their customers. I asked if a new or working controller could be sent immediately rather than my son waiting for their issues to be sorted, and he stated emphatically that would not be done. I contended that I did not want anything except for a working controller that I had purchased. I then questioned if a new controller as a replacement was out of line as my son had issues with this immediately and also logically that if the repair facility received the item on August 6, 2024, and sent an email saying that it was “repaired or replaced” early on August 7, 2024, that there was a good possibility that a new controller was sent out as a remedy because the turnaround time was so short. I also reiterated that I just wanted a working controller and that it did not have to be new. The agent restated that this could not be done and there wasn’t a way to tell if a new or repaired item was sent.Maybe my expectations are too high. The amount of time I have put into getting a working controller for my son is not reasonable. I do think that a replacement being sent (new or used, just working) was not an unreasonable request given the Microsoft’s failures to create a reliable product and to be able to adequately manage a warranty system so that the customer would not have to waste additional time following up on their purchase. Lesson learned.

    Interchangeableness

I have gone through a few xbox elite series controllers and there are many things I like plus a few improvements I feel could be made.Gripe/Feel of the controllers: I prefer the elite series 2 grip over the elite series one and normal controller grips. The slight grittiness of the handles is a different, but nice feel in the hands. With the handles not being smooth, it makes the controller a little easier to hold onto if you have sweaty hands like myself.Battery: Playing with a normal controller, I always felt like I was changing the batteries every couple days. This controller has its own rechargeable battery that I feel last longer than any of my other controllers I have had. With a direct plug into your xbox system it makes it easy to charge while you are gaming. On another note, you don’t need to get up and try to pause or hope you don’t die to multiplayer running to get batteries to put into the controller.Interchangeableness: I titled this review Interchangeableness because I feel that is what sets this controller apart from the rest. The joysticks, dpad, and triggers are all interchangeable/adjustable. Trigger adjustability is to make your tension lighter or stronger. There is 3 different levels of adjustment for the triggers and I have grown to like the lightest tension. Your dpad and joysticks each have 2 different variations to choose from when playing this controller. The dpad can be your typical plus shaped dpad, or you can choose the circular option. I like the circular one as you have a little bigger of a button. For the joysticks you have a lower flat option or a taller round option. I never liked the tall joysticks so I stayed with the lower option. The downside to the joysticks and dpad is the magnetic connection. The magnets are not super powerful as for removing and replacing, but I have had pieces fall off while using the controller if flicked in a certain way.Overall a good controller but I have lost pieces do to the magnetic not being a little stronger.

    Great for 7 months

Update: I was able to get a tech at xbox support, walked me through resetting, again working great.Purchased Feb 2024, in Sept 2024 it’s unusable. It’s like the left joystick is being held and every button is being pressed twice. I updated it and it didn’t change a thing. I loved it before this happened. Now I can’t even use it.

It feels great and the thumb stick tension adjustment is really nice. I don’t need all the extra buttons, so removed the paddles. Series 2 Core model would be perfect for me, but this offers more at only a slightly higher price.

Unfortunately, the best controller but also full of flaws

This controller has so much going for it, and what it can do it does incredibly well. I’m very happy I can turn off stick clicking and instead bind that function to the paddles, which makes playing a variety of games much more comfortable. The quick toggle between input devices is also great, as I play with it on PC using the dongle and a laptop with Bluetooth. Tap tap on the connection button flawlessly swaps between the two. However, it’s crazy to me you can only bind buttons and triggers already on the controller to the paddles. What? Why can’t I bind a letter on my keyboard, or a key combination? Now granted, there’s ways to get around this (becoming an insider in the xbox app), but it should be default functionality now, and it should have been years ago. Also really wish they had a version without profiles that didn’t take away my screenshot button. I have no use for profiles but miss the screenshot button every day.I also wish the controller came with a version without the rubber grips. Not only do I not need nor want them, but they peel easily and after merely a few months of use, they start to come off the controller. So unfortunately, this is still the best controller on the market. And I say unfortunately because it’s very flawed. But it’s still the best. I just wish they’d address some of the concerns I brought up because this good controller could be truly great.

Great controller, though the durability could be improved.

I’ve used this controller since its release. I have also went through three of them during that time. The first one I had issues with one of them bumpers not working, the second one had issues with the rubber grips coming off, and now I’m on my third one.Aside from the issues mentioned above, the controller is fantastic. It feels good in your hands and has a nice weight to it, it has a ton of ways to customize it, including the paddles and the software on xbox/pc. It also just feels really premium and nice to use. With all that being said, the price is a little steep. But despite this, I have bought three so far, so do with that information what you will. I still recommend this product.

    Whats with the drift

The quality of the controller is top-notch. But no matter how I adjust the settings I can’t seem to eliminate the drift that occurs with these controllers. I have had three of these controllers and the last two have the drift. On a regular controller the drift does not happen, whenever I hook up the elite controller the drift occurs again. Wish they would either fix the issue or help me figure out how to eliminate it through the settings. Lastly, there seems to be some flaw in the RB button. On my first two controllers the RB button started malfunctioning. You would have to click it multiple times, or just at the right spot, for it to detect the click. The first controller did this after about a year. The second one did it after a few months. So far, the problem has not manifested itself in my latest controller. All-in-all a really like these elite controllers and will probably continue using them just because I love the four extra buttons at the bottom of the controller, but I wish they would fix these annoyances.

UPDATE 10-16-22Quick update, i notice the Y button feels a bit sticky as well. However, i feel more annoyed about it when playing ghost recon breakpoint. For those who dont know, in breakpoint there are 3 slots to switch your weapons and to switch to your handgun you need to press Y twice. That is when i notice the stickness on the Y button as it doesn’t always register the input. I dont notice it as much when i tried playing ow2 or battlefield. Might be because i press the y button more “forcefully” on. Competitive fps games than single player games. So far the selected button, A button, and Y buttom feel a bit sticky.Original review:Just want to point out this is my first elite controller. Never wanted to buy the original black elite series 2 controller as is known for its numerous quality flaws. However, now microsoft stating they listen to the many complaints from consumers i was tempted to buy this new elite controller.I had received this contoller on the day of its release. Holding the elite contoller for the first time, right away i can tell it’s solid and feels premium compare to the standard xbox controllers. I love the rubber grips on the side of the controller; it definitely helps locking my hands into place for long sessions. The battery life is great and it comes with a USB type c cable. Am not so used with the trigger stops so don’t plan on using them for now, but love i have the option. I honestly now understand why many would keep buying the original black elite series 2 contoller over and over even with its quality issues taking affect within a short lifespan of use. However, i did notice some issues right away. The A button feels a bit sticky. Like am force to push down the button all the way just to register the input. Unlike my other standard xbox controller, it feels more sensitive and easy to press down. I notice the same issue for the selected button as well. However, i only feel annoyed about this issue when playing competitive games. For slower single player games i don’t notice it at all.Unfortunately, Microsoft decide to release this contoller without the paddles on the back. And in my case, this is my first elite controller so i won’t be able to do a proper review on that feature. As an alternative, i went ahead and purchase the scuf paddles and so far everything works fine. But am curious how the stock paddles feel and so i might purchase the accessories mircosoft is going to sell separately. At the moment, i haven’t encounter any other issues using this contoller and will update if i find something to share in the future.I hope this review helps!

Solid Controller! When It Doesn’t Have Connection Issues

I have a perfect connection with my other controllers, for some reason after only 2 1/2 months of use, it seems I have to reset my Xbox Series X over and over again to get it to work, which it barely does. This sucks because I really liked the feel of the controller.. Stay away from this if you are on Xbox. DisappointedAdjusted; Seemed to have been an error the Xbox’s behalf, not the controller. Very solid controller, yet kind of pricey.

    good enough

the product works just like it suppose to, but in my personal opinion you dont need to spend so much money on it, because the extra utility and performance upgrade on your game is so little. its also impractical on the daily use for watching netflix or other aplication because accidental push of the lower levers when you put the control aside or when you take it.

Review for those apprehensive about hearing of quality issues

I feel like most people who have a positive experience with a product do not leave a review for those on the fence about something. I read some mixed reviews on quality being hit or miss. The controller I received has no button issues or stick drift out of the box. Feels very well made and the customizable aspect is nice. I purchased this for muscle memory on playing Elden ring between my steam deck and PC as it was one of the few controllers that was wireless and has four back paddle buttons. I purchased the aftermarket SCUF paddles and I enjoy this as much as playing on the deck. The packaging is good, charging dock is convenient and you can charge with the dock while in its case – but if you do get the aftermarket paddles, you must remove them before using the dock as they are larger than the stock ones and will be in the way. Keep in mind you can also just charge using direct USB-C connection with the included cable which also was nice quality (braided and all) and not have to remove the paddles.I wrote this review as a datapoint for the “good quality, good experience” column. Your mileage may vary but mine was good. I will update this review if anything falls apart in the coming months of use.

Really good but my A button stopped working after 3 weeks

The controller is perfect for the games I play with paddles and just a good controller in general and I love the case etc… only problem is my a button on the controller doesn’t work every now and then and I’ve only been using it about two weeks (probably played with it for 3 hours playing Batman Arkham knight and riders republic to test the controller).

    Limited life span.

This is a great controller but be advised the grips on the sides stretch after continuous use and start to peel off. Be careful if you use glue to adhere them back or you’ll disable the top “bumper” buttons. Also, once stretched, it will not fit back in place so you’ll have to trim the excess. I’ve done this with the one I have but, while functional, it looks a bit trashy for a nearly $200 controller. Overall, good, but with a limited life span. I hope they fix this with the next iteration of this controller.

    great upgrade

recently went from xbox to pc and got a steam controller. it was yanky and kept bugging and having issues. this is a huge upgrade for my cod playing. great vibration and settings to have pre loaded loadouts on the controller. added a few extra button on the back as well. fully customizable really from what the buttons do to actually changings the physical buttons and resistance.

Great controller, minus the ridiculous headphone limitation

You’d think that a $100+ controller would support something so basic as plugging headphones in through the aux port while playing wirelessly. Other than that step backwards in technology, the controller works great. That’s the only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars. I should dock more stars off for this absolute miss, but at least MS was honest about it (this time), so it’s really nobody’s fault for my own for “unreasonably” expecting such a basic feature to be present in such an expensive piece of gear. How dare I!

    Love it but defective

Excellent controller, easy to set up and customizable to be more responsive than the regular control. However, the first one ordered never arrived (permanently delayed in shipping) and for this one the right D-pad button doesn’t work. Despite that, I am replacing it because the controller itself otherwise is worth it. I hope the replacement works!

    GOOD SO FAR 🙂

I initially had reservations about purchasing this controller, as I had a negative experience with it when it first came out. The right bumper failed to register input when pressed, and there was some analog drift. However, despite these initial concerns, I decided to give it another try.I must say, it feels great in my hand. After using the Elite 2, holding a regular Xbox controller feels like playing with a toy due to its superior features. Thus far, the controller has been performing well for everyday use, and I haven’t encountered any issues like I did with the previous one. Perhaps I lucked out this time around. Who knows? If this controller is available at a discounted price, I would advise investing in some form of protection in case it stops working.

A bit over priced but works great!

I bought this hoping this would be a great alternative to an xbox controller for the series x when I play rocket league. Turns out this is the best controller I have ever used. The back pedals make it great for rolling in rocket league.Despite all the cool features with this remote and despite it being the best controller I have ever used the price is not good along with the longevity of this remote. The buttons are meh quality along with the joysticks themselves. You are clearly only paying for features with this remote because the quality is about the same with any other xbox remote. To top things off the price makes this remote only 4 stars out of 5 because the price considering everything I have said is a lot. Thanks!
