5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it if you’re a handheld player
This moderate upgrade of the Nintendo Switch is definitely worth spending an extra $50 to get if you are already in the market for a new Switch. The most important question though, is if it’s worth it for the people who already own a Switch. This depends a lot on personal preference as well as how old your current switch is (and if you own the original HAC001 from 2017-2019 or the V2 that released in late summer of 2019). I mostly play in handheld mode because that is what this console excels at, for playing on a TV/Monitor, there are plenty of better options. So what do you get with this OLED model? You get a larger screen that is OLED instead of IPS LCD. This is the type of screen that most iPhones have used since 2017 (and all of them use it now except for the SE2). You get a better contrast ratio, meaning deeper blacks and brighter colors/whites. There is no HDR support like Dolby Vision or HDR10, but it still looks leagues better than all the other Switch models. The smaller borders around the screen make the device look more modern and it’s the size they should have gone with from the beginning (even if the logistics of using OLED wasn’t feasible in 2017). There is also improved speakers, they do sound better and make the games your playing sound larger and more immersive. It’s not as big of a difference as the new screen is to the old screen, but it’s still a good thing to include.Another new features is a better kickstand that is more like that of a Surface Pro tablet, allowing the Switch to be able to lean all the way back and be much more sturdy while doing so. This isn’t really important unless you play in tabletop mode, but this is more realistic of a way to use this console with the screen being just that much bigger, I could see myself using a Pro controller and sitting the switch down for certain types of games. The last difference here is the dock, which has a built in Ethernet port, which you should really use if you have the option to go wired. Unlike in the previous model “regular Switch”, a wired connection is basically twice as fast as using standard WiFI, before it was only about 1.5x as fast. It still is unfortunate that you cannot achieve 100Mbps download speeds, but 60-65 is better than the 40-45 I was getting on my older model. If I had to oversimplify who should buy the OLED model, I would say that these two types of people should buy the OLED (even if they already have a Switch Lite or V2) It would be: techie people who are nerdy about their tech and want the best they can get (even when they don’t need it), and serious gamers who sink hundreds and hundreds of hours into playing the Switch in handheld mode. Also, I don’t know that we need to specify this anymore because the switch OLED has largely been in stock since early January. But I did not and would not pay one penny more than $350 (plus tax) for this console. I think it’s worth that price if you love Nintendo characters/games, but I don’t think the hardware is worth more than $400 and the tax gets it pretty close to that.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Products Ever Made – Period!
First, to be clear, I play exclusively in handheld mode. (No proper technophile allows a video game system to be connected to their 4k tv if it does not output 4k. LOL!) I am also a console (Xbox) gamer and have been playing video games since the mid 1980s.With that being said, this device is shockingly awesome. Why? You can basically play games with the graphically fidelity of almost (but not quite) the Xbox One/PS 4 in your hands. This blows me away. The fact that I can play NBA 2k, FIFA, Need for Speed, Grid, Mortal Kombat, Puzzle Quest and so many other games on the go is truly a joy to behold. As a result, much to my surprise, this has been the console I have ended up playing the most. It’s easy to see why – I can take it with me wherever I go. I travel for work and personal reasons. This is with me and I can continue playing my games on it. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy my Xbox experience and still play PC games as well. They are awesome. However, I notice I play this more because it can be on an airplane with me, in the bed, during lunch at work, when I travel, etc. Then, sometimes when I get home, I may want to continue my gaming. So it is racking up more hours than my Xbox and PC (which I certainly still enjoy). Then, the OLED screen is gorgeous. I had an original Switch. I absolutely love this screen, the brightness, sharpness and clarity. Some games look totally different. If you already have an original Switch, if you can, sell it (or give it away) and get this one. I absolutely love it. I even bought a 512GB micro SD card. I am in a form of gaming Nirvana. You will really enjoy this model. Finally, I do think that Nintendo is in a truly awesome position with the Switch. I am not sure if Nintendo even realizes how close they are to dominating the video game market for decades. Why? Think about it. As of January 2022 the Switch is the leading console with over 100 million units sold. It really, at this point, needs one thing to finish off the competition for decades. What is it they need? Just a little more power. If Nintendo creates a device that has the graphical and processing power of an Xbox One/PS4, can do 1080p in handheld mode, with a 7 inch OLED screen, (and 4k when docked) Nintendo will rule gaming for at least a decade. Why? 1080p on OLED, at the handheld distance from the eye, appears almost as detailed as 4k at a tv watching distance. With the processing power of the Xbox One/PS4, developers can bring tons of more of their best games (triple A titles) to the Switch. So, a Switch that powerful, with a large number of triple A games on it and with a screen that good in handheld mode, the Switch’s market share would crush the competition. At any rate, I digress. If you are considering this device. Get it! Period. The build is so awesome on this variant. You will love it.I have to go now. I have to play my OLED Switch – LOL!Also, the delivery from this seller was also good. It came ahead of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Handheld Console
I bought this on a whim, and I’m so glad I did. It’s so much fun play all the NES, SNES, N64 games from when I was younger. It also has the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games. The newer games made for Switch are awesome. The screen is amazing. Very clear and vivid. It is a great system when hook to the TV, but mainly bought it for using when I am traveling. It’s not just for kids, it’s for adults who are kids at heart too.

I’m 73 and my DS-lite is getting too hard to see without extra magnifiers.Unboxed it, snapped on the joy-cons and plugged it in. Setup was smooth and I popped in the Ori Collection cartridge. It came up fast enough I guess and looks beautiful.Left it charging while I did yard work.

5.0 out of 5 stars It’s NINTENDO!
I absolutely love the product. I had a spat when I got it. It didn’t have a charger for the dock. However talking to Amazon Support they corrected it for me and I was able to get a charger off the store. With the Switch Oled, you not only are able to have a bit more vibrant colors, but the system itself has great battery life. I had the original switch and this is leagues better. I literally had the switch in my bed for 4 days playing off and on and within those 4 days the battery went as low as 30% and the charging happens fairly quick, not to mention you can dock it and play it while it charges on a big screen tv.SO IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT A SWITCH IS OR HOW IT WORKS LET ME EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCES1. theres 3 versions- Switch (original one with a dock and can be played on a tv w/ a smaller screen than Oled)- Switch lite (the hand held version with no dock and can’t be played on a tv)- Switch Oled (newest one, vibrant colors on screen, Larger screen, and has a tv dock)2. Games- The switch is one of the better nintendo systems that have more 3rd party games on it, although the selections are smaller than the Playstation and Xbox, the switch gives you versatility to not only bring it with you on the go to play games, it gives you the action to play with multiple people by separating the joy cons (controllers) and with that you can use each one sideways as a controller allowing two people to play and with multiple joy cons you can have a session of multiple people.-It has both digital and cartridge games. the cartridge games are very small, and they also have a fast install time. The games are very fun to play and have lots of multiplayer options. No full VoIP on the system but they have an app for cellphones to use.- the store usually has great deals on titles as most of the cartridge games cost full price or barely have anything discounted at places like Target, Walmart or Gamestop.3. How they work (docked versions)- a docked Switch connects to the TV, it allows the device to charge and you can play games as it charges on the dock.- it has a tabletop mode where you can play games on the screen as a tv. In other words you can still use a controller but have the tablet part standing upwards as you use a full controller to play on it.- Handheld is where the Joy cons are attached to the tablet and you use it like a handheld or similar to a gameboy or something in that way.Personally it’s worth the money and Nintendo has usually very good systems that last a long time. Although they might not be the best graphically they have some fun family friendly first party games.

Dusty Dino –
4.0 out of 5 stars Unimpressive Hardware, Overpriced, But Very Fun
As a kid I owned a Nintendo, an original Gameboy, and a Super Nintendo. I’ve been aware of the Nintendo consoles since then, but haven’t put any time or money into the platform since my Super Nintendo days. Instead Sony has been getting my time and money. Using the PS5 as my benchmark, initially I was very disappointed in the Switch. However, after purchasing the top Nintendo exclusive games and putting considerable time into it, I’ve come around and I’m definitely happy I purchased the Switch OLED. What I failed to understand when I purchased the Switch is that Nintendo is not competing directly against Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo has essentially become the “Disney” of gaming. In that I mean that Nintendo has their characters and storylines that we’ve all grown up with. Now we want our kids to share in that experience, which doesn’t really require an 8k capable GPU. Instead, being a clever company, Nintendo has targeted kids with a comparatively less expensive console, sporting handheld capability, tons of swag, and easy to configure parental controls. For adults that want to play after the kids have gone to sleep, the platform supports some more mature titles, and a regular controller experience.I really like the classic games like Zelda, Mario, & Metroid. The gameplay is improved and the stories are familiar. Nintendo’s Pro Controller is fantastic (it’s also a must for adults). I like being able to take the console on trips, and dock it at my TV at home. I also really appreciate the use of micro SD storage. Downloaded games seem to average around 5.5 GB in size, so adding a 256 GB micro SD to your built in 64 GB of storage should allow plenty of space for most people. I like the game sales in the eShop, as that’s the time to buy. And while I don’t recommend it, the ability to purchase cartridges is a bit nostalgic for me.I really dislike the terrible, dated hardware choices that Nintendo made. The OLED screen may be an improvement over the original Switch, but it’s still not great at only 720p resolution. The wired network adapter in the dock is slightly faster than the wireless adapter in the console, but both are terribly slow and it takes a long time to download games. The Nintendo network speeds are also laughably slow, and I wonder if they are trying to preserve the nostalgia of the load screen. Keep in mind that unless you want to get up to change your game, or potentially have your kid lose a game, you’ll want to download your games from the eShop. So you’re really forced to deal with the slow network experience everytime you want something new. It’s still worth the suffering up front for the long-term convenience of having it downloaded. Another confusing hardware choice is the Joy-Con controller. These things are overpriced trash. I can see where Nintendo was going, but they have some major shortcomings. To charge the Joy-Con’s they need to be connected to the console, or you have to purchase the charging grip (~$35). Nintendo included a grip, but not one with charging capabilities, which means you’ll have to switch to handheld mode to keep playing, or stop playing while they charge. Instead of buying a charging grip, I recommend the Pro Controller, which has a USB-C port on the front for charging while playing. It’s better than the Joy-Con in every way, and cheaper. Which brings me to my biggest complaint, the price. Just like Disney, Nintendo is fully aware of the grip they have on your kids, and thus they charge accordingly. There is no part of this console that makes it worth the price. You either want to play (or your kids to play) Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc. or you don’t. If you do, then you will pay. Need an extra power adapter so you don’t have to disconnect it from the dock everytime…overpriced. Need replacement Joy-Con’s because the included ones started to drift…overpriced. Any game at regular price…overpriced. Why would I pay Nintendo more for a game that’s going to look and play better on my PS5 for less money?I think you get my point. The Switch is not for everyone. If you have kids, or you love the Nintendo original titles, there’s likely a Switch in your future. If you’re buying it for you (an adult), get the Pro Controller and don’t look back. If you have another “serious” console, don’t buy any non-exclusive titles for the Switch. They’re usually cheaper and better on literally any other console.

The switch itself has no major issues but the charging dock does not allow me to switch to the TV using the HDMI. It charges perfectly but whenever the switch is installed into the dock the screen does NOT turn off and switch over. Considering returning as its kind of annoying when I want to play on the TV.UPDATE: The seller quickly contacted me and sent me a replacement dock. It only took a few extra days to arrive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great! Enjoying it so far 💓
Okay so I’ll start off with why it was 4 stars for me. My product arrived safely, was left in a shady spot, and seemed fine! Upon opening the box, the actually switch oled box seemed kind of worn? Or as if it was was a used up box or something. The edges on the box, including the opening, seemed worn, the tape for the opening was already opened, and overall just seemed like it was possibly someone else’s package before me. I did notice on the side, a label indicating it was possibly a return, so I’m assuming it was returned at some point. Whoever used this switch and returned it, left it a little dirty to say the least. Screen still had protection on it, everything that was included in package was there and original. The side bars were a bit greasy looking? I guess you could say. I mean for a product that is white, it seemed almost off white. Along with that, the left side bar seemed to have two tiny little blue scruff marks. Overall, the whole console itself works great, seems in good condition, and I’ve had no issues thus far. I did not include pictures since I’m writing this from work, but I can probably include pictures later.Other than these things, the switch works great!! There is definitely a significant amount of storage and longer battery life it seems, and the screen is much bigger than the OG which is honestly really nice. I haven’t tried the Bluetooth option yet, but the sound quality alone is pretty great, even just at midway volume. The graphics are lovely, and on tv, it’s exactly as expected. I did add the online play membership, which seems to work great and is accessible on the switch and app. I can modify the switch to my desire, I can download games, I can watch YouTube on it as well. I mean, it’s pretty great so far. To be fair, this is also my first switch, but I have used and borrowed switches in the past and to me, I really enjoy this one so far. It’s pretty fast with download speeds, but I’m sure that also has to do with WiFi and other factors that I’m not entirely educated on 🤷🏻 overall, very happy I bought it. Confused on why it looked the way it did, but I assume it was returned to manufacture and then sent to me. Its not something that bothers me terribly, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on any issues that seem to arise moving forward.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great device
Was initially afraid that this was not going to be a quality device, but turned out to be an excellent device. It’s a lot of fun, in that you have various options such as it being portable, or connecting to a TV, or playing at table top. It is a little bulky for it to be handheld. Wished price was lower, but still glad I purchased the item.

5.0 out of 5 stars What’s not to love
I had the original switch which is still in great working condition. I gave it away to my niece knowing I was going to buy the OLED switch but I only wanted it in red. Like my original, I play with this one everyday. If you’re still on the fence, jump off & get this. If you’re holding out for the switch 2 then you may have a long wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brand New OLED switch!!! Sharing experience, please read to decide if young kids love it or not!
This is my first gaming console after a long time, before I played on old PS and Nintendo 2DS, but this OLED switch is day and night difference. I gifted this to my 9 years old daughter and a 5 years old son. They’re having party at home now!! Choosing a gaming console appropriate to audiences I got (my kids of course), was no brainer 1/Since this console can be played handheld so travel friendly with kids 2/Can be easily switched to TV for big screen experience 3/Multiplayer games are fun because you have two joycons 4/Light weight on the hands 5/Joycons are most suitable for your kids, however, both Joycons can be clubbed to use as full controller on Joycon Grip 6/Docking is breeze 7/Longer play time on switch screen 8/Kids can use switch as Table Top mode (use the inbuilt screen and put it on table and play when on travel, fun to have both kids sit side by side in a car 9/The Dock is light weight and HDMI, LAN and power adapter can be connected 10/You can charge with USB-C while on travel.. Now few things can be improved 1/Joycons can be confusing sometimes, the buttons on both Joycons play imp role so kids are confused which to press when on mutilplayer mode, so it can be simplify 2/Docking is so light weight that it is being dragged sometimes if you connect with TV on HDMi cable, so need extra few grams weight to stay put properly 3/Games are insanely pricy, I mean almost all Mario games are about 60 bucks a game!!! So buy the switch, and then buy those costly games!! No discount I saw so far on Mario games 4/I need to check the switch specs, but I am sure there is no 4K support even I connected to my Sony Bravia x90K 85″ 4K/120 Hz HDMi 2.1 input, used HDMi 4 input which is 4K/120 Hz compatible. 5/Sound on switch is alright, well, good that your kids won’t annoy you while they play on switch and not on TV 6/Internal memory is adequate, only 64GB, initially okay but can’t put more games if you gonna install more than 15 (3 gb per game), should be alright if kids want to experiment free games and just recycle them.Nothing major negative though, all good so far! Hopefully you will enjoy your brand new console! So far I love it since my 5 years Son can easily handle without much adult supervision!!! Go for it and yes, it brand new item!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not very “Mario” more “Red” than anything
Bought this for my husband for Christmas and he loves it. Personally though I think it should have had more ‘mario’ themed stuff on it given the special release. The hidden coins are nice, but it’s not much. I get that’s it’s “Mario red” but they could have slapped an M somewhere to make it at least worth the higher price. Other than that, the console worked fine, no technical issues and the joy cons didn’t drift. Everything was packed well and no damage or scuffs to the exterior.

3.0 out of 5 stars no instructions at all inside! Had to google what I needed and still having issues !
Really? for this price ? no instructions in English ! everything in the box was written in a foreign language. No set up guide. no tips, thanks a lot , next time I’d just buy one locally with someone to assist me . and the first purchase I made for a game was made out of Singapore ! Don’t purchase online , just buy them from a local store

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a perfect match for me.
Having physical issues, this game lets me play games and enjoy myself. I like the OLED screen, it’s much better. The price difference is worth it to me.I LOVE this game as it lets me play some old school Nintendo games and others, in a platform that is similar to that day.I love it so much, next time they come out with a new model, I will be very likely to get one.I think the only failure of this game is that they do not have a charging base, or game stand. The game stand is a HUGE one for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sorry I waited this long
Now that I’ve got my hands on it, I regret not purchasing the oled model when it launched. I’m upgrading from the OG switch launch model, and the improvement in the screen and battery life is significant. On paper, the screen is only slightly larger, but in person, it’s significant. With the oled, the colors really pop, not nearly as washed out looking as the original switch, and it gets much brighter too. It’s just gorgeous. The current hardware is also much more energy efficient. The battery life vs the launch model is roughly doubled, and I had just put a new battery in mine 6 months ago. The kickstand is actually useful, where the OG felt like it would break off just opening it. If I have to have a complaint, it’s that the air intake vents have been moved to the bottom edge and little rubber feet have been added, I guess to prevent it from sliding on a surface. I often like to tuck my pinky fingers under the bottom when playing handheld, and these changes make it less comfortable to hold this way. It’s a minor thing that I’ll get used to, and is hardly even worth mentioning when you consider the other upgrades. The transfer process was a real headache, you have to have both consoles side by side to transfer, and then download a special app to transfer your animal crossing island. There are also some games where saves will not transfer under any circumstances. Then your sd card has to be erased and all games redownloaded, 300gb with in my case. This is not the fault of the switch console, but it is Nintendo and their archaic online system and DRM. If they had their act together the process would be as simple as signing in on the new switch, moving over the sd card with all games, and just syncing the cloud saves.Update: After more use, I found 2 other areas where this oled model falls short. I’ve found the game card slot cover is impossible to open without some sort of thin tool to stick in there and pop it open. There is no way to grip it or get a fingernail under it. If you’re mainly digital, like me, then it’s not a concern, but if you only buy physical versions of games this will likely irritate you. Also the wifi still sucks. The original switch was notorious for its poor wifi connectivity, and I can confirm it has not been improved in the oled model. If anything, it seems worse. The new one drops the signal and fails to connect in locations where the old one worked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product
The ONLY reason this is 4 stars is because I received the wrong color. Obviously this isn’t the Mario Red Limited Edition that I’m reviewing. However the seller gave me a partial refund for the incorrect item received. This product also came way quicker than expect. This one is Japanese, and I’m in the US but it works completely fine so if you receive a non US one don’t sweat it. The plug is the same. Overall this OLED is beautiful. It’s a bit lighter then the original switch too. I bought it for a friend and they seem to love it even though it’s not the Mario one. Thank you to Emma’s Market (the seller) for quick shipping and EXCELLENT customer service.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun for the right person
This review is for someone on the fence about a handheld gaming system… if you intend to use this mostly docked… move on to another review. The screen is small for me. I grew up with the original GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advanced, and finally the GameBoy Advanced SP. That should give you some idea of my age. Even wearing glasses, the 7″ screen is too small for most text. I like RPG’s and story based games, and the text is often not optimized for the smaller Switch screen.Finding cases is about impossible. Maybe there are more now, but in 2022 I had to improvise because there were almost no cases that the OLED would fit in. I purchased a padded sling bag and added extra foam to prevent damage if dropped. The battery dies VERY fast. You pretty much have to be next to an outlet if you’re gaming longer than 2hrs… maybe if you sat in the dark and turned the screen brightness down. The screen scratches about as easily as an old school CD or DVD. I had to wait for my screen protector to be delivered and played the Switch for a few days, kept it in a padded case when not in use, AND it got a small scratch on the screen. It struggles with ports. Games made by Nintendo work great on the switch. Ports of games made for beefier hardware struggle on the Switch.FYI, I sold my Switch and purchased a gaming laptop.
